Laurina Bragdon has been reading books since her high school years. At first she liked reading fiction and later, she started exploring different non-fiction genres. She believes that reading non-fiction gives us a better understanding about thought process of great thinkers and tells us about a wide range of real-world topics that fiction rarely covers. From the varied genres in the non-fiction books, she likes reading the ones that relate to history, traveling, science and biographies. The biographies of great men and women of the world have many lessons that we can learn from and help improving our lives.
Laurina Bragdon mentions that ever since she bought an e-reader, her passion for reading books has intensified even more. Instead of carrying around big books with her, she can simply carry a single device which contains almost all of her library. She mentions that she likes reading books while traveling, but it was very difficult for her to take books with her earlier. Now with her e-reader, she can read multiple books in the course of a single vacation.
She also thinks that children these days need to develop a habit of reading books as they are too busy with online games, social media websites, and television. Reading books can help children in developing their imagination and also give them a better understanding of various concepts. One of the most important benefits of reading books is that it improves vocabulary and reading comprehension. Presently, Laurina is reading Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance written by President Barack Obama. Since Laurina speaks fluent Russian, she would like to read “War and Peace” in itsoriginal language in order to enhance her Russian reading skills. |
